Ormoc City Tourism’s Kalesa Ride

Kalesa Ride is really fun. You’ll not only enjoy looking at the places, buildings, and establishments you passed by, but also by looking and observing at the horse pulling the Kalesa. Just wish that the horse will not through its wastes (shits and urine) in front of you.

Last Wednesday, I went to Ormoc and saw the new model of Kalesa. Look at the photo below. That’s the Kalesa of the Ormoc City Tourism. Ha ha ha!

Last Tuesday, we (my wife and I) headed to Malitbog, Southern Leyte riding our Honda XRM motorcycle. As we reached Barangay Lungsodaan, P. Burgos, Southern Leyte, we decided to take photos we passed by. We’re using a Kodak C613 Digital Camera set to Landscape scene. Below are the photos we got.

Actually, these photos are the results of our experiment in using “Landscape Scene” in taking pictures in motion.

A Dog Rider

Last June 30, 2008, my wife and I went to Hinunangan, Southern Leyte to visit my mother-in-law or my wife’s mother. We’re just riding my or rather our Honda XRM motorcycle. It’s actually our first long distance travel as married couple riding our motorcycle.

We took a few minute rest of riding 2km before reaching the poblacion of the town of Tomas Oppus. We’re taking pictures of each other when an approaching red 110 Honda XRM motorcycle got our attention. A dog was riding on it as you can see on the photo below:

We wondered how the dog seated itself at the tail of the Honda XRM bike. While they’re still far from us, my wife guessed that someone was next to that dog and holding it on there. But she’s wrong because no one was actually supporting the dog. It’s the dog himself supporting its own and did the balancing.

Now, we’re very much curious. So we followed them. I told my wife to took photos of them while I would try to go near with them. When we’re almost at their side, I told my wife to took a larger photo of the dog’s feet for us to know more if the dog was tied up against the bike’s seat. But nothing and no one was really supporting him. The dog supported its own.

It’s really amazing.

Maharlika Highway in Liloan, Dangerous

Riders coming from the northern part of the Philippines who want to visit Mindanao via the Maharlika Highway will pass through the dangerous part of the Maharlika Highway which is found in Liloan, Southern Leyte. I described it as dangerous because you will not expect that some part of the road are defective as shown on the images below. You will not notice this damages while you are in approximately 30 meters away from this part.

Well, if you are using the off-ride sports bike or the big bike, this damaged road might be fine for you. But it’s too dangerous to riders who use underbone bikes or any low-profiled bikes.

And one more reminder… as you reach the town of Libagon, Southern Leyte, it will be good if you reduce your bike’s speed to 50km/hour – 60km/hr because you’ll find lot of damaged part of the highway from this area down to Liloan, Southern Leyte.

Purok Mamagan Variety Show

Last April 26, 2008, I watched the Purok Mamagan Variety Show in Barangay Calag-itan, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. This show was just one of the series of shows that Barangay Calag-itan people did. These shows were supposed to be fund raising of each of the districts or purok of Baranga Calag-itan but the Purok Mamagan council decided to make it free not just to entertain people who watched the show but also to discover the talents of the people of the Purok Mamagan.

From Maasin City To Marihatag, Surigao del Sur

I will be going to Marihatag, Surigao del sur to fetch my girl friend and this will be my longest trip for the year 2008. As usual, I will be using my Honda XRM 110 motorcycle.

After posting this post, I will now start my journey. I will first fill my motorcycle tankc with gasoline that will be enough to run from Maasin City to Sogod, Southern Leyte. In Sogod, I will be again filling up the tank to make sure that I can reach Surigao City without emptying the tank. In Surigao City, I will again fill to full the gasoline tank for my journey down south. And my next refilling will be in Butuan City and San Francisco, Agusan Del Sur.

I think, by tomorrow I will be in Marihatag, Surigao del Sur already.

Accidentally Fall for the First Time

In my 15 years of riding a motorcycle, yesterday�s accident was my first ever experience of falling from it.

I might be tired of driving the Toyota Innova from Malitbog, Southern Leyte to Ormoc city via Bato, Leyte then back to Malitbog from Ormoc, but then the accident was really due to the fault of the other guy involved with it.

Yesterday, after driving our family I immediately went to Liloan Ferry Terminal in Liloan, Southern Leyte to fetch my nephew who would be staying here in Malitbog, Southern Leyte on the rest of the days of the month of December 2007. On my way to the Ferry terminal, I was driving at the speed of 70KPH in a slightly curved highway near the Himay-angan crossing when a young man riding his bicycle suddenly turned left crossing my lane. I know I would hit him but I still tried to apply brake on both wheel. The motorcycle almost skids, but I managed to control it until I finally hit the pedal of the bicycle.

We are actually in a letter � T position during the impact. We�re just too lucky that the impact is not too heavy but it still threw us few meters away from the motorcycle and bicycle.

He stood up immediately and told me to get my motorcycle and check its damage. I then told them to forget about the motorcycle because all the damages of it can be repaired. Instead of thinking about anything else, I told them to check his body for any injury.

I can�t really believe that we both had no injuries, even scratches. But my Honda XRM motorcycle and his bicycle were all slightly damaged.

The young man asked apology from me. And I advised him to be careful and not to do the things he did. I also reminded him that the road he�s running was a highway not just an ordinary road, and that vehicles are normally running in high speed.

If what hit him was a 4-wheel vehicle, I wonder what will happen to him and where he is now.

A Visit To Ormoc City

I am currently here in Ormoc City (as of writing this post) with my Honda XRM motorcycle. I visited this city three times already but this time is different because I stayed here for atleast half a day.

The adventure is quiet interesting. Riding the motorcycle from Malitbog, Southern Leyte to Ormoc City via Bontoc to Bato diversion road which took me 45 minutes passing by the town of Tomas Oppus. In Bato, I eat my breakfast at 7:00 AM and then start rolling the highways again.

When traveling from Bato to Ormoc City, you’ll pass by towns of:

Hilongos
Hindang
Inopacan
Baybay
Albuera

And I spent 2 hours driving the motorcycle at the speed of 70 to 80 KPH.

In Tandag City

On June 26, 2007, I visited Tandag City, the capital city of Surigao del sur. Tandag City is 44 kilometers away from my home town, San Agustin, when going North.

The San Agustin to Tandag highway is currently on its worst situation, wherein, the San Agustin to Marihatag highway section is under construction and some sections from Marihatag to Tandag are not yet concreted nor asphalted.

Photos below are taken during my visit to Tandag City:

1, 2 & 3 - The rare wheel was deflated in Unidad, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur. Since, the vulcanizing shop was just near, so I decided to bring the XRM motorcycle to the shop instead of changing the inner shell by my self.

4 - A billboard that tells the people to vote YES for the uplifting of Tandag from a Municipality to City. Tandag is now officially a city.

5 – The entrance of the St. Nicola De Tolentino Parish (Catholic) Church.

6 – Store ladies where I bought Mango shake and Hotdog waffle. The store was located besides the Bright Star building. That�s the beauty of Tandaganon-Filipina.

7 - The building where government offices like NSO, GSIS, etc found.

8 – Tandag main road going south of Surigao del Sur.

9 - Tandag main road going north of Surigao del Sur. It�s the road that will bring you to Surigao del Norte.

10 – My XRM motorcycle parked in front of the Okay-Okay store. The building at the right-most is the abandoned Bright Star building.

In Liloan Ferry Terminal

Liloan is one of the gateways to the Southern Leyte through its Liloan Ferry Terminal where Roro vessels load and unload land vehicles, along with the tourists and travelers going to or from Surigao City.

The photos below are taken in Liloan, Southern Leyte during my journey down south of the Philippines.
